The bottom line is this...
The Treo 600 is and will probably continue (for quite a while) to be a more user-friendly, stable piece of equipment for a busy professional who doesn’t have time for glitches, bugs and other nonsense.
Since Bluetooth doesn’t work on the Treo 650 anyway... not consistently and not with most headsets... and given that, combined with a Jabra BT adapter, the Treo 600 is a more effective Bluetooth device and the better choice of the two units.
To re-emphasize... all Bluetooth headsets that we’ve tested work fine with the Treo 600 when you have a blue tooth adapter plugged in to the 2.5mm headset plug...
It’s kind of pointless to spend the money on a Treo 650 until Bluetooth works properly and the massive slew of bugs & problems have been fixed.
It is now late June ‘05
In March, patch 1.04 for Cingular was released months ago, nothing Earthshaking there... 2 MB of memory freed up and Bluetooth connects slightly faster and the unit may or may not be more stable... not nearly enough, but any change for the better is welcome. Additionally, a Sprint updater (1.08) has been released. While initially, everyone ranted and raved about the 1.08 updater’s great effects on freeing up memory and stabilizing the unit... we are now hearing about even more incompatibility issues and some units are back to resetting and crashing again.
In late April, early “beta” versions of an alleged update for GSM showed up in Singapore... these are version numbers 1.21 and 1.23. These are rumored to be forerunners for the upcoming firmware updater 1.25 that was supposed to be officially released on May 5th (almost a month ago). Although everything about the Treo 650 screams “beta”, we will continue to refer to these early “leak” releases as beta firmware (pretty funny really). These early releases did free up a certain amount of memory for many individuals, however at this late date, a substantial number of problems are being reported in the 650 forum on TreoCentral.com
June15: Another Sprint upgrade version; this one is number 1.12. There is a little more memory freed up & more BT profiles supported, more new issues are also being reported with the improvements.... sheesh.
June 16: Unlocked GSM upgrade version number 1.28. There are yet even more issues that are being reported in the 650 forum on TreoCentral.com... Tell me Palm, what exactly was this firmware and OS updater supposed to do again?... we don’t see any improvements at all!
Where are you PalmOne?
